Yemi Osinbajo: 103 ‘Gbosas’ To A Worthy Ag. President

The question of whether the acting President did well in those days President Muhammadu Buhari was far away in the United Kingdom attending to his undisclosed ailment needs no debate. For 103 days or thereabout, Professor Yemi Osinbajo displayed what it meant to be a true leader, and a worthy deputy whose loyalty is untainted. His popularity soared and yet remained calm; he combed the entire nation representing what true governance should be. The people loved him; he displayed character amidst difficult challenges. Even when people of the opposition party labeled him ‘a figurehead’ deputy, he was not distracted a bit.

Since 1999 that Nigeria returned back to democracy, no time have we seen a deputy so brilliant and dedicated to good works of nation building that is this evident to all and sundry. The level of cooperation and synergy between Buhari and Osinbajo is something to applaud. Gone were the days in this country when President and his vice will openly abuse eachother and throw ‘subs’ at themselves on national television and dailies.

Osinbajo, despite his popularity and acceptance as he traveled across Nigeria while Buhari was away, never allowed the beautiful moments to get into his head. I doubt if any contemporary Nigerian politician that has the kind of opportunity Osinbajo had in those few days, and will not use it for their own political agenda. Such has been the practice in politics in almost every clime.

Whether we like it or not, the Acting President deserves a medal for this. For keeping Nigeria together from imploding, for endearing himself to the people, for representing the office of the vice president well, for all the special sacrifices he made to fill the temporary vacuum his boss left. For each day the president was away I say 103 ‘gbosas’ for a worthy and trustworthy Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo.
